Thank You

You became the one thing in my life I wanted to hold on to
and never let go.
I may have been bad at relationships
but I loved you so much.

We were young and we were in love
but that wasn’t enough.
You took the girl I was
and set her on fire and she never came back.

You changed her heart
and made her see what her life could be.
You changed the ways that she thought about life
and the ways she thought about who she was

and how she wanted to live.
You gave her the strength to carry on
when there were so many times she wanted to give up.
You gave her hope

and you gave her purpose.
And even after you were no longer in her life
you changed everything about her.
She saw life with eyes wide open.

She hung on to the things she loved
and she let go of the things that brought her down.
She found her purpose
and her hope in life

and you never even knew that you were the reason.
Back then you changed the broken and misunderstood girl
into the confident young woman
that she is today.

And the young girl that you once
loved in the past
thanks you every day.
She wouldn’t have made it without you.

I know that we don’t talk much anymore
and that you think I haven’t moved on.
But I have and all I have been trying to do was

thank you for saving me when I didn’t know how.

Please understand that you were what I needed
in my life all those years ago
and I thank you every day that you
helped me to live.
